Scientific names seem so complicated
I'd like to say them right but I don't feel courageous
It always makes me sweat pronouncing science words
Just thinking about it now makes my stomach turn

        Where do they come from scientific names  

Scientific names use a different language
That's why it looks so scary on my science pages
Scientists agreed to name things using Latin
They agreed around the world and that is how it happened 
The words are built from parts that they put together
Here's a few examples to help you learn them better

Micro means small macro means large
Uni means one and poly means many
Hydro means water bio means life
Geo means earth and photo means light 
    My house cat's name in Latin is Felis domesticus
Feline means cat domestic means house
        The first word is its genus the second is its species
                    Still that doggone system doesn't seem too easy
